HACK- Part 9- Food
**Lettuce- In a glass jar w/ a sealing lid or a pickle jar or such, take a head of Romaine lettuce or other long lettuce, cut off the end and pull apart the leaves. Fold and place in the jar till full. Seal it and place in the frig. When you want a salad, remove what you want, wash and eat. This is supposed to extend the life of the lettuce. Also set the end in water and it may re-grow more leaves.
**Veggie Food Scrapes- Save these scapes from food prep, the onion skins, the carrot ends, the ends of garlic, celery,,. Place in a silicone bag and pop in the freezer and add to the bag till full. Then pour in a pot and simmer for a few hours for veggie broth. Add seasonings as desired. Then put in the compost.
** Silcone Bags- They are reuseable and better than plastic bags that can tear, may have checmicals you don't want touching food and end up most of the time in landfills as waste. (Amazon)
**Bamboo Towels- On a roll, Tear off 1 to use and re-use. Also can be cut smaller if desired. Once have been used enough can be composted. (Amazon)
**Avocados- If only using 1/2 of it, leave the pit in the saved half to slow the ripening and brush w/ Olive oil. Thea also said to put the pit in the Guacamole and it will do the sme thing.
**Unripe tomatoes- Place in a cardboard box w/ stem side down to let them ripen.
