HACKS- part 6- FOOD
**Shelling Boiled Eggs- In water boiling eggs add a little baking soda and shells should be easy to remove.
**Potatoes- To keep from sprouting add an apple to the storage w/ them.
**Lettuce- To extend the use of lettuce if it goes bad before you use it all, you can cut off the end. Then fold the leaves up and place in a large glass jar w/ a sealing lid such as a Ball jar or a pickle jar. Place in the frig. Take out what you need and then wash it. This method removes the air from it and keeps it dry.
**Lettuce- Place paper towels in the lettuce bag to absorb moisture. Replace when wet.
**Fresh Paper- A High School Project using the method of her grandmother,to keep foods fresh, the high school creator made it and when she graduated turned it into a business. You can place a small strip in a fruit bowl or in veggies or fruit in the crisper drawers in the frig. When the maple smell is gone, compost them or recycle. (QVC, own website)
**Green tomatoes- Wrap in newspaper like a candy w/ the twist on top and place in a dark place for 2-3 weeks. Check then if ripened.
**Green Tomaotes- Place in a cardboard box w/ the stem side down and allow to ripen.
**Buy Heirloom seeds for food production as they have not been changed. They will always grow true to the parent. Hybid seeds have been bred for specific characteristics of several varieties and will not grow true as they do not have a single parent line.
